Day of Firsts

Well, yesterday was a day of firsts for our family
It was my son's 5th birthday, and he received his very first two wheel bike for his birthday. With the help of the training wheels put on by both grandpas and daddy, H was off and riding. A couple of spills later, it was time to put the bike away for the evening, with much protesting.

And for our other first, I uttered these words for the first time to my 5 year old daughter,
"Just because everyone else does it does not mean you have to do it too."

She has been using the phrase, "I swear..." This is not appropriate for her, and I suggested she use the words, "I promise" instead. Her reply? "But moooom, everyone else at school says it." And my reply was of course the afore mentioned phrase.

I am sure that I will find myself uttering those words many more times in the future. She is almost six, you know.

Yes, for now, I have two 5 year olds who are not twins. Hold your applause and your oooohs and ahhhhs please. I get that look every time someone asks how old they are. : )

Some day, they'll be 16 at the same time. Where's my little emoticon for the mommy going stir crazy?
